SCOTLAND, S.D. — In a competitive matchup on January 10, the Corsica-Stickney Jaguars secured a hard-fought victory against the Scotland/Menno Trappers, winning 47-41 in boys’ basketball. Trailing at halftime, the Jaguars rallied to turn the game around with a strong second half.
Despite shooting only 33% from the field, Jaxson Feenstra led the Jaguars with 13 points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, teammates Sawyer Schmidt and Jett Kemp each contributed nine points, with Kemp also providing six assists. Aiden Clites made a significant defensive impact, recording six steals to aid the Jaguars in improving their record to 3-4.
The Trappers initially took control of the game, holding a 14-7 lead after the first quarter and a narrow 20-19 advantage at halftime. Erick Buechler stood out for Scotland/Menno, achieving a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Hunter Yosten added nine points, but the Trappers fell to a season record of 2-5. Looking ahead, Corsica-Stickney will face Mitchell Christian on January 12, while Scotland/Menno will visit Centerville on the same day.
In girls’ basketball, the Corsica-Stickney team also excelled, defeating Scotland/Menno decisively with a score of 60-30. Braylee Bordewyk was the standout performer, scoring 20 points, followed closely by Sophie DeLange with 19 points and Hadynn Johnson contributing 12. On the other side, Lexie McNinch scored nine points for the Trappers.
Freeman also had a strong showing, improving to a 4-2 season record with a commanding 68-27 win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour. Aubree Tschetter led Freeman with 20 points, while Vaida Ammann and Rylee Peters each added 13 points.
Additionally, in another thrilling boys’ matchup, Wagner edged out Winner 58-55. Jesse Zephier led Wagner with 17 points, and Ky Arpan contributed a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. For Winner, Carter Craven had an impressive 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Across the state, several other games took place with notable performances. Aberdeen Christian triumphed over Waubay-Summit with a score of 75-48, while Castlewood secured a dramatic 71-63 overtime victory against Deuel.
