Chippewa Valley and Dakota Secure Victories in Volleyball and Soccer

The Chippewa Valley volleyball team achieved a decisive victory against St. Clair Shores Lakeview on October 11, 2023, sweeping the match with scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-17. This win solidifies Chippewa Valley’s position in second place in the Macomb Area Conference Blue Division, improving their overall record to 16 wins and 9 losses, with a conference record of 5-2.

Leading the offense for Chippewa Valley was Reagan Lesley, who recorded an impressive 14 kills. Teammates Evi Carducci and Karmen Owens contributed significantly as well, each adding seven kills. Defensively, the team showcased strong performance, with Sammie Nowicki registering 13 digs and Sam Mondalek following closely with 11 digs.

Rivalry Thrills in Soccer as Dakota Triumphs

In a thrilling soccer match, the Dakota High School team bested L’Anse Creuse North with a decisive score of 25-25-25, dominating in the MAC Red Division. Senior captain Morgan Jankowski led the offense for L’Anse Creuse North, finishing with 12 kills, while Sam Curtis added seven kills.

In a closely contested soccer match, Warren Cousino edged out Fraser with a narrow 3-2 victory to kick off their state tournament journey. Junior Frankie Tom played a pivotal role, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Senior Cynric Jacob Gorospe and junior Daniel Sternicki also contributed goals, while Adem Jakupi assisted on one. This win followed a dominant regular season for Cousino, who had previously defeated Fraser twice.

Meanwhile, Romeo secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Utica Ford II. Currently ranked among the top five teams in the state for Division 1, Romeo’s goals came from Philip Ristovski and Owen Perry, helping maintain their momentum as they prepare for their next challenge against Rochester on October 15.

Dominant Performances Highlight Pre-District Matches

Sterling Heights Stevenson delivered a commanding performance, blanking Roseville 8-0 in a pre-district matchup. The Titans’ early scoring ensured a mercy-shortened game, allowing them to advance to the district semifinals next week.

Additionally, Warren Mott celebrated their recent MAC Gold Division title with a strong showing against Sterling Heights, securing a 6-3 victory. This win propelled Mott into the district semifinals, showcasing their determination as they continue in the state tournament.

In Division 3, Macomb Lutheran North experienced a turnaround, defeating Clawson 5-0. The Mustangs ended a four-game losing streak and achieved their third shutout of the season. After a challenging rebuilding phase, this victory marked a significant milestone for the team.

As high school teams across the region gear up for the remainder of the season, the excitement and competitive spirit continue to build, setting the stage for an exhilarating conclusion to the fall sports calendar.
