Carson High School delivered a stunning performance on March 12, 2024, defeating Concord High School 76-56 in a South Piedmont Conference matchup at the historic Rimer Gym. The victory was particularly sweet for Carson, who had faced two defeats against Concord in the previous season.
In an impressive display of shooting, Carson made a remarkable 21 three-pointers, accounting for 63 of their 76 total points. The team managed only four two-pointers and five free throws throughout the game. This strategic long-range shooting was pivotal, as the team showcased their offensive prowess against a Concord squad that had previously troubled them.
Carson’s head coach, Brian Perry, praised his team’s solid performance. “We shot it well and moved the ball really well,” he stated. “It’s never easy on the road, so we’re happy to get this one.” Perry himself was a standout player, sinking eight three-pointers and finishing the game with 28 points. His performance included four three-pointers in the third quarter alone, bringing his career total to 964 points at Carson.
Alongside Perry, Drew Neve contributed significantly with 17 points, most of which came from his five successful three-pointers. Jacob Mills added 13 points, including four three-pointers, while Jaxson Martin and Corbin Krider also contributed to the scoreline. Martin secured six points and five rebounds, while Will Hall notched nine points, along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Remarkably, Perry has scored a total of 86 points in his last three games.
On the opposing side, Concord struggled to contain Carson’s offensive strategy. The team managed to score 14 points each from DJ Sandford and Jayden Beyan, while Weatherspoon added 13 points. Despite their efforts, Concord fell to a season record of 3-4 and 0-1 in the conference.
Looking ahead, Carson (6-0, 1-0) will host Salisbury, another undefeated team, on March 15, 2024. Prior to that game, the school plans to retire the baseball jersey of former athlete Owen White. Additionally, the team is set to participate in a Phenom Hoops event against Mallard Creek on March 16, 2024, at Central Cabarrus.
The final score reflected Carson’s dominance, with the breakdown as follows: Carson 16 25 21 14 — 76, Concord 9 18 14 15 — 56. This game not only marked a significant victory for Carson but also highlighted their potential as they progress through the season.
