The Denver Broncos have promoted linebacker Jordan Turner from their practice squad, enabling him to make his NFL debut against the Dallas Cowboys on October 29, 2023. This move comes as a result of Dre Greenlaw‘s one-game suspension, following an incident during the previous week’s game against the New York Giants.
Turner, a 23-year-old rookie undrafted free agent, joined the Broncos after the April NFL draft. He participated in the offseason workout program, training camp, and preseason before being waived during final roster cuts in August. He was subsequently re-signed to the practice squad. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 231 pounds, Turner brings significant athleticism to the field.
During his collegiate career, Turner played three seasons at Wisconsin before transferring to Michigan State in 2024. Across 42 career games, he accumulated impressive statistics, including 201 combined tackles, 23 tackles for loss, eight sacks, five interceptions, four pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.
According to scouting reports, Turner possesses the ideal combination of length and athleticism that is highly sought after at the NFL level. His skills include strong zone coverage and adequate man coverage, complemented by solid awareness and good acceleration to respond quickly to plays. His ability to avoid blocks and effectively navigate running lanes enhances his overall run-stopping capability.
As Turner prepares for his debut, he will join a linebacker corps that includes Alex Singleton, Justin Strnad, and Karene Reid. The Broncos’ head coach, Sean Payton, addressed the situation regarding Greenlaw’s suspension, stating, “We were clearly in his corner with the appeal. What normally has been a fine ended up being different. But again, we can’t control that.”
Turner’s elevation to the active roster highlights both his potential and the Broncos’ commitment to developing talent. His performance in the upcoming game will be closely monitored, particularly as the team strives to secure a critical victory against the Cowboys.
With Turner stepping onto the field, Broncos fans are eager to see how this young talent will contribute to the team’s defensive strategy. The matchup promises to be a significant test for both the Broncos and their new linebacker.
