Becky Lynch, known as “The Man,” is preparing for a highly anticipated rematch against Lyra Valkyria at WWE SummerSlam on August 5, 2025. The event will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and will air live on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix internationally. In a recent interview with Michael Cole, Lynch discussed her journey in WWE and her determination to maintain her status as the Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
Reflecting on Her Journey
In the interview, Lynch reminisced about her position in WWE a decade ago. “About 10 years ago, I just remember being so unsure of my position in this company, but so sure of my potential in this company,” she stated. She highlighted a turning point in her career, noting that while she felt poised to make a significant impact, she was often overshadowed by other stars, particularly Charlotte Flair. “Well, it ain’t featuring Becky anymore, is it?” she declared, signaling a shift in her narrative.
Lynch emphasized that her attitude has not changed but rather the perception of her has evolved. “My attitude didn’t change. The people’s attitude changed towards me, and they broke my heart. I fought for them. I have been changing the game for the last decade,” she expressed, adding that she is ready to embrace whatever role the audience expects of her. “So now The Man is gonna hold everybody else down.”
Facing Lyra Valkyria
As she prepares to defend her title, Lynch reflected on her opponent, Lyra Valkyria. “Lyra lit up when I walked out there. Looked like she was gonna cry,” Lynch noted. She acknowledged that she played a role in Valkyria’s rise to prominence, saying, “I allowed Lyra to make history like her hero. Becky and Lyra with the golds.” However, she made it clear that she intends to teach Valkyria a lesson, describing her approach as “tough love.”
Lynch compared her role to that of a strict trainer, stating, “If your dog pees on the floor, what do you do? You rub its face and it has to learn.” This metaphor illustrates her commitment to maintaining her championship and the responsibilities that come with it.
She views herself as the gatekeeper of opportunities within WWE. “This title is the workhorse championship, and that’s what I am. I can do for people’s careers what nobody else can,” Lynch asserted. She believes that her reign elevates other competitors, citing Valkyria’s prior achievements as a testament to her influence. “Look at her now, I have still elevated her like nothing else has because I’m the greatest,” she concluded.
With the No DQ Match looming at SummerSlam, Lynch is poised for a showdown that could redefine her legacy in WWE. Fans are eagerly awaiting the clash between two formidable athletes, as Lynch aims to solidify her dominance in the ring once more.
