BAXTER, IOWA — The Baxter girls basketball team celebrated their first victory of the season with a close 49-46 win against Meskwaki Settlement School on January 9, 2024. Led by a standout performance from Kamdyn Krampe, who recorded a double-double, the Bolts maintained their composure to fend off a late surge from the Warriors.
The game began with a strong start from Baxter, who established a five-point lead after the first quarter. By halftime, they had extended their advantage to six points. Despite facing a determined effort from Meskwaki in the second half, the Bolts managed to secure the win, marking their third consecutive victory over the Warriors. Since 2017, Baxter has now won 10 out of 17 matchups against Meskwaki.
Krampe was a pivotal player for the Bolts, finishing the game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals. Her performance was complemented by Emileigh Beals, who added 12 points and seven rebounds. Olivia Parrie also contributed significantly with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, while going 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. Other key players included Kaylyn Krampe, who had four points and three assists, and Avery Wonders, who collected nine rebounds.
While the Bolts shot 33.3 percent from the field overall, they struggled with their three-point shooting, making just 1-of-18 attempts. Their free-throw performance was also below par, connecting on only 14-of-26 shots. Despite these challenges, Baxter’s defensive effort shone through, as they managed to swipe 11 steals and force the Warriors into 24 turnovers throughout the game.
With this victory, the Bolts improved their record to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Iowa Star Conference South Division. In contrast, Meskwaki Settlement School fell to 0-2 for the season, having lost their first two games by a combined total of just nine points.
As the season progresses, the Baxter girls will look to build on this momentum, aiming for continued success in their upcoming matches.
