The coronation of the new rodeo titleholders took place on March 10, 2024, at the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association Building in Downtown Montgomery. The ceremony celebrated the crowning of Jenessa Sullivan as Miss Rodeo Alabama, Lily Trolard as Teen Miss Rodeo Alabama, and Abree McClendon as Junior Miss Rodeo Alabama. The event featured a sweet tea social and a silent auction, fostering community engagement and support for the rodeo.
Each titleholder expressed excitement about their new roles and the responsibilities that come with them. Jenessa Sullivan emphasized the importance of promoting the sport of rodeo and educating the public about food origins. “All the hard work, the hours, and the dedication put behind the crown has led to this one year that I get to dedicate to promoting the sport of rodeo,” she stated. Sullivan highlighted that one in five people in Alabama has a connection to horses, making her role particularly meaningful.
The messages from the new queens reflect their aspirations to inspire others. Lily Trolard encouraged young people to dream big. “Always dream big and never let anyone tell you that you can’t do anything. You can always do something; you are more powerful than you think you are,” she remarked. This sentiment resonates with many aspiring competitors in the rodeo community.
Junior Miss Rodeo Alabama, Abree McClendon, sees her role as an opportunity to motivate younger audiences. “I feel like an inspiration to younger kids. At rodeos, they’re always on the fence and they’re like ‘hey I want to do that one day,’” she said. McClendon aims to be a role model, showing that the dreams of young attendees can become a reality.
The event not only crowned new ambassadors for the sport but also served to strengthen ties within the community. The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association and attendees celebrated the rich tradition of rodeo in the state. As the new titleholders prepare for their year of service, they carry with them a commitment to advocacy and education about rodeo culture, agriculture, and the significance of horses in Alabama’s rural landscape.
With their dedication, Sullivan, Trolard, and McClendon are poised to make a lasting impact on their communities. Their reign will highlight the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of pursuing one’s passions. The coronation not only marks a significant milestone for the titleholders but also brings renewed energy to the Alabama rodeo scene.
