John Carroll boys basketball player Aidan Able has made history by becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing the significant milestone of 2,037 points this December. In achieving this feat, he has joined an elite group, notably eclipsing the record previously held by NBA player Immanuel Quickley, who graduated in 2018.
The Patriots have enjoyed a strong start to the season with an 11-2 record, largely attributed to the efforts of Able, a 6-foot-4 guard known for his versatility and leadership on the court. Over the recent weekend, the team captured the Bullis Holiday Classic, winning three games, including a decisive 62-53 victory against the host team in the championship match. Able’s performance throughout the tournament was outstanding, averaging 30 points per game and earning the title of Most Valuable Player.
Aidan Able’s Impact on the Team and Community
In addition to his scoring prowess, Able is recognized for his leadership qualities. Last season, he was named to the All-Metro second team and is currently averaging 24 points, seven rebounds, and four assists per game. His academic achievements are equally impressive, maintaining a 4.2 grade-point average, and he has committed to play college basketball at UMBC.
Reflecting on his recent scoring milestone, Able expressed his satisfaction: “It feels really good. I feel I’ve put the work in and it all paid off and I’m really happy I was able to get that.” Passing Quickley is particularly meaningful for him, as he admires Quickley’s work ethic and commitment to returning to the school to support current players.
Looking ahead, Able believes the team is well-prepared for a successful season. “We’ve all been putting the work in since summer, and we started off this year playing really well together,” he noted. “I think that can take us a long way.” His enthusiasm for teamwork extends to the enjoyment of the game itself. “We’re having fun, and when we compete and play hard, that brings us joy.”
Senior Year Aspirations and Future Plans
As a senior, Able recognizes the significance of his final high school season. “I know this is my last year, and all us seniors have the same mindset to go out there, give it our best.” His vision for the remainder of the season is clear: “If we keep doing the things we’re doing right now, I think that will take us a long way and to a championship, which is what we want.”
Able also understands his role in securing team victories. While he can score, he emphasizes the importance of leadership and keeping his teammates focused. “I want to make sure everybody is on the right page and calm because I know it starts with me,” he stated.
During this festive season, Able cherishes the opportunity to spend quality time with family, particularly those who travel from out of town. He fondly recalls his best Christmas gift, a PlayStation, and the joy of giving thoughtful presents to his loved ones.
As he transitions into the next chapter of his life, including a commitment to UMBC, Able reflects on his journey: “I got a chance to sign [to UMBC] a couple of months ago, so that was the best day for me. It was a relief and a lot of excitement around the house.” He appreciates the coaching staff at UMBC and the familiarity with local players, feeling that he found a supportive environment.
Looking forward to 2026, Able aims to achieve a championship title and prepare himself for college while enjoying the final moments of his high school experience. His determination and passion for the game are evident, positioning him as a standout athlete for the John Carroll Patriots.
