Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

In a surprising announcement ahead of its much-anticipated Season 3 premiere, Paramount+ has confirmed that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will conclude with a fifth and final season. The streaming service revealed today that production on this concluding chapter, consisting of six episodes, will commence later this year.

The third season of the series is set to debut with a double-episode premiere on Thursday, July 17, exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States. Following the premiere, new episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays, culminating in a season finale scheduled for Thursday, September 11. Previously, the show had been renewed for a fourth season, which is currently in production.

A Journey of Exploration and Hope

“From the very beginning, Strange New Worlds set out to honor what Star Trek has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope, and the belief that a better future is possible,” expressed executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman in a joint statement. “We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who’ve boldly joined us on this journey — THANK YOU. With three more spectacular seasons ahead for you to see and enjoy, this adventure is far from over.”

Recognition and Acclaim

Throughout its run, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has garnered significant acclaim, securing multiple award nominations. Notably, it received a Best Drama Series nomination from the Critics Choice Awards in 2023 and clinched a win for Best Science Fiction Television Series from the Saturn Awards in 2022.

This development follows the renewal of another Star Trek series, Lower Decks, which also concluded with a fifth season last year. Both series are produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment, continuing the legacy of the iconic franchise.

The Cast and Creative Team

The upcoming third season of Strange New Worlds boasts a stellar cast, including Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, and Martin Quinn. The season will also feature guest star Carol Kane and special guest star Paul Wesley.

Guiding the series are co-showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, with an impressive roster of executive producers including Alex Kurtzman, Aaron Baiers, Dana Horgan, Alan McElroy, Robbie Thompson, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Chris Fisher, Anson Mount, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth.

Global Reach and Availability

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is available for streaming exclusively on Paramount+ in a wide range of regions, including the U.S., the UK, Latin America, Australia, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Japan. In Canada, the series is also accessible via Paramount+. Additionally, it streams on SkyShowtime in the Nordics, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, and Central and Eastern Europe. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution, ensuring its availability to a global audience.

Looking Ahead

As fans prepare for the upcoming seasons, the announcement of the series’ conclusion marks a bittersweet moment for the Star Trek community. The move represents a strategic decision by Paramount+ to wrap up the series on a high note, allowing the creative team to fulfill their original vision.

With the promise of three more seasons filled with exploration and adventure, viewers can look forward to a fitting conclusion to a series that has consistently celebrated the spirit of discovery and optimism that Star Trek embodies. As production gears up for the final season, fans worldwide will be eagerly anticipating the continuation of this beloved journey.
