William “Bill” Plant, a respected member of his community and devoted family man, passed away in Torrance, California. He was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and dedicated much of his life to serving others, both as a member of the United States Coast Guard and later as an officer with the Redondo Beach Police Department.
Bill’s military service included postings in Newfoundland and the South Pacific. During his time stationed at the Point Vicente Lighthouse in the spring of 1962, he met Jeannine, the woman who would become his lifelong partner. Their chance meeting at Redondo Beach blossomed into a deep love, leading to their marriage that December. Together, they celebrated 63 years of friendship and companionship.
While stationed on the small island of Ulithi, Jeannine purchased their forever home in South Redondo, where they would build a life filled with memories. Following his eight years in the Coast Guard, Bill transitioned to a career with the Redondo Beach Police Department, where he served the community for nearly 30 years. His commitment to public service left a lasting impact on the city and its residents.
Bill was known for his passion for maintaining his home and nurturing a garden that attracted hummingbirds and monarch butterflies. He found joy in reading and observing ocean life from the Esplanade. Yet, his most cherished moments were spent with family, especially with Jeannine, sharing in life’s simple pleasures.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannine, and their children: Nathan (Jennifer), Adam (Miki), and Sara (Sam). He is also remembered by his sister, Virginia (Richard), along with extended family and friends who appreciated his kindness and dedication.
A private celebration of Bill’s life is planned for a later date, allowing family and friends to honor his memory in a meaningful way. His legacy of love, service, and community will continue to resonate with those who knew him.
