Dan Ericson, a cherished figure in the South Bay community, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025. He was 77 years old. Surrounded by family and friends, Dan’s final moments reflected the love and warmth he shared throughout his life.
Born on October 26, 1948, in Redondo Beach, Dan grew up in a tight-knit family, raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson. His formative years were spent excelling at Aviation High School, where he was not only an accomplished athlete in baseball and basketball but also earned the title of Homecoming King. Following his education, he attended El Camino College before being “recruited off the beach” to play volleyball at San Diego State University.
Dan’s life took a significant turn when he proudly served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. After a brief period in the aerospace industry, he discovered his true passion in real estate. Over the decades, he built a successful business in the South Bay, becoming known for his integrity and dedication to mentoring aspiring realtors. His commitment to teaching others the importance of honesty and compassion in business earned him deep respect within the community.
In 1980, Dan married his beloved wife, Cetha Walkington, at Neighborhood Church. Together, they created a life centered on family, community, and love. Dan was a devoted father to their two children, Sten and Kirstin, and a proud father-in-law to Katrin. His role as a grandfather to Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise was a source of immense joy and pride.
Dan’s gentle demeanor and playful sense of humor endeared him to many. His ability to delight others with clever wordplay and unexpected jokes always accompanied his signature warmth and smile. In his earlier years, he cherished activities such as surfing, fishing, and sailing, which shaped his easygoing, ocean-inspired outlook on life.
For more than 40 years, Dan was an active parishioner at American Martyrs Church. His deep connections to the community were evident in his involvement and the friendships he cultivated over the years. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha, who passed away prior to him.
A funeral Mass and celebration of Dan’s life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM. The family invites all who knew him to join in a paddle out at 10:00 AM on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, a fitting tribute to a man who loved the ocean. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, reflecting Dan’s spirit of giving and community support.
Dan Ericson’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, serving as a reminder of the importance of love, integrity, and dedication to one’s community.
