Suzanne R. Rubincam, a beloved music educator and resident of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Redondo Beach, California, at the age of 84. Her legacy lives on through her family and the countless students she inspired during her career.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Evanston, Illinois, Suzanne attended Northwestern University, where her life took a significant turn. It was there that she met her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr., who charmed her at her Debutante Ball. The couple married and eventually settled in California, where they spent over 55 years together in the Lunada Bay neighborhood.
A Life of Music and Joy
Known affectionately by many nicknames including Sue, Miss Susie, and Grammy, Suzanne dedicated her professional life to teaching music at Rolling Hills Country Day School. Through her engaging productions, she brought joy to her students and instilled a love of music in their hearts.
Outside of her teaching career, Suzanne enjoyed vibrant summers at the Portuguese Bend Club, where she cherished time with close friends. She found joy in needlepoint, creating intricate pieces that she often gifted to her loved ones. Her passion for music extended to playing the piano, and her garden flourished under her care, particularly her beloved rose bushes.
Those who knew Suzanne often remarked on her radiant smile and her culinary skills, with her lemon meringue pie being a family favorite. As a devoted mother to her children, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam and Amy Rubincam Steadman, and a proud grandmother to three granddaughters, her family brought her immense happiness. She was also a wonderful mother-in-law to Denise and Will, further enriching the family ties.
Remembering a Loving Partnership
Suzanne shared a deep bond with her husband, Paul, who predeceased her. Together, they were known for their lively presence on the dance floor, captivating those around them with their joy and energy. Friends and family fondly remember them as an inseparable couple, and many believe they are now dancing together once more.
In accordance with Suzanne’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to support research for Alzheimer’s disease.
