Meadowlark Optics Inc., a photonics company based in Frederick, Colorado, has made a significant contribution of $70,000 to the University of Colorado’s Quantum Scholars program. This initiative supports students studying quantum technology at CU’s Boulder campus.
The Quantum Scholars program, established through a collaboration between the Department of Physics and the College of Engineering and Applied Science, offers a range of benefits to its participants. According to the university, these include scholarships, lectures from leading quantum scientists and industry experts, professional development opportunities, and access to employment and internship connections.
CU noted that the financial support from Meadowlark Optics comes at a crucial time. The Quantum Scholars program has experienced rapid growth, responding to increased student interest since its launch three years ago. Currently, more than 150 students are enrolled in the program, with approximately half receiving scholarships funded by alumni, industry partners, and external organizations.
The founder of Meadowlark Optics, Tom Baur, is a proud alumnus of CU. His company recently expanded its capabilities by acquiring Boulder Nonlinear Systems and enhancing its headquarters in Frederick with a state-of-the-art facility. This expansion not only underscores the company’s commitment to innovation in the photonics field but also strengthens its ties to the academic community.
The support from Meadowlark Optics is expected to enhance the educational experience for students engaged in cutting-edge research and development in quantum technology. As the demand for skilled professionals in this emerging field increases, programs like Quantum Scholars play a vital role in preparing the next generation of innovators.
