LeRoy Forehand, a respected World War II veteran and long-time resident of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully from natural causes on February 7, 2026. His contributions to both his country and community have left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Born in Grinnell, Iowa, LeRoy moved to southern California in 1941. He began his career as an aircraft ordnance technician at Lockheed Aircraft, where he worked on the P-38 fighters. His commitment to service led him to enlist in the U.S. Navy in August 1942, where he played a significant role in the Pacific theater during World War II. Notably, he served as a Beach Master on Saipan in 1945, overseeing critical operations during a pivotal time in the conflict.
After returning from the war, LeRoy continued his professional journey in southern California, taking on roles at TRW and later at CALTRANS until his retirement. His dedication to community service extended beyond his professional life. In 1960, he joined the Gardena Masonic Lodge, ultimately achieving the office of Master. LeRoy was also actively involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), serving on the Honor Guard at Post 1622 in Lomita for over two decades. His support for the USS Iowa and participation in the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade further exemplified his commitment to honoring military service.
LeRoy is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Forehand, who will cherish his memory. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a viewing scheduled at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary, located at 1223 Cravens Ave., Torrance, on February 26 from 16:00 to 19:00. A memorial service will follow at the mortuary chapel on February 28 at 10:00.
Following the memorial, LeRoy will be laid to rest at Green Hills Cemetery. A celebration of life is planned for after the interment at Lomita VFW Post 1622, located at 1865 Lomita Blvd., where friends and family can gather to honor his legacy.
LeRoy Forehand’s life serves as a testament to dedication, service, and community. His contributions will not be forgotten, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
