Art’s Passion for Life and Community
Beyond his extraordinary commitment to family, Art found joy in a variety of passions. His family fondly recalls camping trips to Glen Ivy, which provided countless cherished memories. An avid bowler, he competed for over four decades at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. In the 1960s, he showcased his athletic prowess by pitching in a men’s softball league at Torrance Park. Art was also a skilled pool player, recognized as one of the best in Torrance, winning several tournaments throughout his life.
Art’s family moved to Torrance during his youth, where he grew up in La Rana, a close-knit community. He attended Torrance High School and later built a commendable career. He worked for 20 years at Soule’ Steel in Carson before becoming a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His precision and dedication earned him great respect and accolades within his profession.
A Legacy of Love and Accomplishment
Art was a self-made man who rose from humble beginnings to create a life rich in purpose and accomplishment. His pride was evident in the home he meticulously restored and maintained, with every project reflecting his craftsmanship and dedication. A lifelong reader, he subscribed to the Daily Breeze and took delight in the written word, particularly enjoying the fact that his sons once delivered that very paper.
Though Art is no longer with us, his spirit endures through the stories shared by his loved ones, the lessons he imparted, and the love he freely offered. His family invites friends and community members to celebrate his life. Services will be held at 4 p.m. on October 27, 2025, at the Bethel Baptist Church of Torrance, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934.
