Community Leader Eileen Hupp Passes Away at 71

Eileen Jane Awe Hupp, a respected community leader and advocate, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, at the age of 71. Her contributions to the Palos Verdes community and her dedication to various causes have left a lasting impact on those who knew her.

Born in Garden City, New York, Eileen showcased remarkable academic prowess early in her life. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Economy and a Master’s Degree in Romance Languages concurrently at Johns Hopkins University, where she was part of one of the first classes of women in their undergraduate program. She later pursued a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, equipping her with the skills necessary for a successful career in strategic planning and financial analysis.

Following her time in Chicago, Eileen moved to Palos Verdes, California, where she embraced opportunities to raise her children and advance her professional journey. For the last 14 years, she served as President and CEO of the local Chamber of Commerce, playing a pivotal role in the economic development of the area.

Eileen was not only a leader in business but also a devoted volunteer and mentor. Her belief in the strength of community was evident in her interactions and the energy she brought to each project. Colleagues and friends describe her as someone who spread joy in every conversation and inspired those around her to engage in meaningful work.

In her own words, Eileen expressed a commitment to fostering unity and connection, stating that difficult times could serve as opportunities for growth and togetherness. She is survived by her three children, Robert Hupp III, Sara (Hupp) Ross, and Emily Hupp, along with her partner, Jose Martinez. Eileen will also be deeply missed by her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Awe Episcopia and Nicholas Episcopia, and her niece and nephew, Jennifer Episcopia O’Hanlon and Gregory Episcopia. She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Walter Awe, and her brother, Walter Awe II.

A memorial service honoring Eileen Hupp’s life will be held at St. Matthew’s Church on February 21, 2026, at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Keck Medicine of USC. Her legacy of leadership, compassion, and dedication to community service will be remembered by many.
