Mildred “Mimi” Wilson, a distinguished artist and devoted educator, passed away on August 22, 2025, just days before her 91st birthday, at her home in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Born as Mildred Jane Brown in Kearney, Nebraska, Mimi was raised in Columbus, Ohio, where her passion for the arts began to flourish.
Mimi pursued higher education at the University of Missouri and the University of Southern California, earning degrees in Music Education and the Arts. Throughout her life, she was dedicated to her family and community, having been widowed from her husband, Dr. William Wilson, who was the former Director of Diagnostic Radiology at the Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach. Together, they raised five children in Palos Verdes, California.
In Palos Verdes, Mimi’s love for theater led her to co-found the New Place Theater Company. She directed various productions at the Norris Theater and actively supported the Palos Verdes Ballet, collaborating with notable figures such as Fay Gillette and Uta Graf-Apostol. Her artistic contributions enriched the local cultural landscape and inspired many young performers.
After relocating to Ridgewood, New Jersey, Mimi embarked on a second career in real estate, where she continued to make a significant impact in her community. Alongside her professional endeavors, she remained actively involved in her church and community initiatives. Mimi also developed her talent as a painter, enjoying the creative process and cherishing family moments, particularly at the shore.
Mimi is survived by her five children: Susan, Chris, Nancy, Bill, and AliceAnn. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her brother, Robert Brown. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Scollay.
Her funeral service took place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain, Ohio, on August 30, 2025. Mimi Wilson leaves behind a rich legacy of creativity, service, and deep devotion to family, ensuring that her influence will resonate for generations to come.
