Carol A. Stent, a cherished wife and compassionate advocate, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, David Y. Nakahara. Her death marks the end of a vibrant life dedicated to family, friendship, and community service.
A Life Filled with Adventure and Love
Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis, Carol was the eldest of seven siblings. She graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation, where she developed lasting friendships and a deep appreciation for the education provided by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
Driven by a spirit of adventure, Carol moved to San Francisco, California, alongside four classmates, where they each launched their careers and found lifelong partners. Her beauty and zest for life caught attention, leading her to Los Angeles, where she met Raymond Michael Stent, a young medical intern. Their love blossomed during his residency at U.C.L.A., culminating in their marriage at the iconic Wayfarers Chapel.
After their divorce in the 1980s, Carol united with David Nakahara, a respected attorney in Torrance, California. They married on May 20, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada, embracing a new chapter in their lives. In 1998, the couple relocated to Las Vegas, where they shared their home with a total of seventeen beloved pets.
A Legacy of Compassion and Strength
Carol’s passion for all living things was evident in her commitment to animal welfare and her unwavering support for her family. Despite facing health challenges, including a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, she remained an essential source of strength for David and his aging parents, providing them with care and counsel during difficult times.
Her ability to illuminate the lives of those around her through her wit and resilience left a lasting impact on her family and friends. Carol’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and dedication to making the world a better place.
Surviving Carol are her husband, David, and her three sisters: Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina. Her life will be remembered as one filled with grace and love, as she often expressed, “Soli Deo Gloria” — only to God the glory.
