Virginia Lee Thacker Velasco Bishop, affectionately known as Ginny, passed away on October 10, 2025, at the age of 90 in Williamsburg, VA. Her life was marked by resilience, love, and a strong family connection that spanned generations.
Born in 1934 in Scottsville, VA, Ginny was the daughter of Raymon and Emma Lou Thacker, both of whom have since passed. She grew up in a close-knit family, which included extended relatives in nearby Critz, VA. Following her marriage to Nelson S. Velasco, she relocated to New York, where she raised four children. In 1972, the family made another move to Virginia, where they continued to build their lives together.
A Life of Transformation and Love
Ginny worked as a Planner with Siemens-Bendix, later known as Allied-Signal Corp, from which she eventually retired. After her children reached adulthood and her marriage to Nelson ended, she embraced a new chapter in her life. This period was characterized by a renewed sense of adventure, including a passion for dancing.
During this vibrant phase, she found love again with Arthur C. Bishop. Their marriage lasted for 28 years until Arthur’s passing, during which time they shared a home in Yorktown, VA. Ginny’s family described her as a source of joy and strength, reflecting the deep bonds she fostered throughout her life.
Family and Legacy
Ginny is survived by her four children: Doreen (who is now deceased), Jamie (married to Becky), David, and Rick (married to Sari). She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, all of whom will deeply miss her presence.
In addition to her immediate family, Ginny is remembered fondly by her half-brother Matthew, who resides in Scottsville, VA, while her two brothers, Sonny and Arthur Thacker, have predeceased her.
The family will host a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on October 17, 2025, at Weymouth Funeral Home. Following this, the funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m., with interment scheduled at Peninsula Memorial Park.
