Former President Donald Trump has unveiled a sweeping immigration plan, calling for a permanent halt to immigration from countries he categorizes as ‘Third World.’ This announcement comes in the wake of a tragic shooting incident near the White House that resulted in the death of a National Guard member. Trump detailed his proposals in a late-night post on Truth Social, emphasizing a rollback of immigration policies enacted during the Biden administration.
In his post, Trump asserted that his administration would pause all immigration from nations he describes as ‘Third World.’ He claimed this policy change would revoke what he referred to as ‘millions’ of admissions authorized under President Biden. Trump specifically mentioned that these admissions included those signed by ‘Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen,’ a remark aimed at questioning the legitimacy of Biden’s decisions.
Trump’s plan aims to address what he described as an overwhelmed U.S. immigration system. He argued that his approach would facilitate a full recovery of the system. In addition to halting immigration, Trump vowed to end federal benefits for noncitizens and to denaturalize migrants he accuses of undermining ‘domestic tranquility.’ He also promised to increase deportations for individuals deemed public charges or security risks.
Tragic Shooting Near the White House
Trump’s announcement coincided with a serious incident involving two National Guard members shot just blocks from the White House. One of the guardsmen, Sarah Beckstrom, 20, from West Virginia, died as a result of the attack, which officials have described as ‘targeted.’ The second service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is currently in critical condition and ‘fighting for his life.’
The suspected shooter, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, is also in serious condition. Lakanwal entered the United States legally in 2021 under humanitarian parole as part of the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome, which was established in the aftermath of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Trump’s Thanksgiving Message
Concluding his social media post, Trump issued a stern warning, stating, ‘Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!’ His remarks drew attention and sparked discussions about his views on immigration and national security.
The proposed immigration changes reflect Trump’s ongoing focus on security and border control, themes that have defined his political career. As the discussion around immigration continues, the impact of these proposals on future U.S. policy remains to be seen.
