State Rep. Jaclyn Ford Gears Up for Legislative Session Starting January 12

Jaclyn Ford, the state representative for District 170 in Georgia, is preparing for the upcoming legislative session, which begins on January 12, 2026. As a representative of Berrien County and parts of Tift and Irwin counties, Ford is focused on advocating for the needs of her constituents. With the session just days away, she is laying the groundwork for the policies she intends to pursue and identifying key reform topics likely to be addressed.

Entering her second year as a legislator, Ford, a Republican from Tifton, expresses enthusiasm about the session ahead. Unlike the apprehension she felt in her initial year, she is eager to push for reform that will benefit both her district and the state. Among the primary issues expected to dominate discussions is taxation reform, particularly initiatives to reduce property tax, incentivize first-time homebuyers, support seniors, and potentially lower or eliminate income tax.

“Lowering taxes is a big issue right now,” Ford stated. She noted that last year, the state income tax was reduced by 20 basis points to 5.19%, indicating that ongoing discussions about further reductions are likely. While she is skeptical about the complete elimination of the state income tax, she remains optimistic that the topic will be a focal point during the upcoming session.

Focus on Forestry and Insurance Legislation

Ford is also prepared to engage in discussions related to the forestry industry, which has faced significant challenges in recent years. Additionally, she anticipates addressing several bills concerning the insurance sector. Over the past summer, Ford served on a Blue-Ribbon study committee that examined the state’s insurance industry to ensure fairness in rates for citizens while maintaining operations for insurance companies within Georgia. She expects legislation stemming from those discussions to emerge in the General Assembly.

In terms of her priorities, Ford intends to advocate for local legislation while maintaining a focus on state-level issues. Her goals include lowering taxes, supporting education, and enhancing affordability for residents. “I certainly want to do what we can to make sure that our taxes are lowered,” she remarked. Ford emphasized the importance of safeguarding education funding to ensure that children receive quality education.

As the 40-day legislative session approaches, Ford’s proactive preparation and focus on key issues reflect her commitment to her district and the state. With a clear agenda and a determination to advocate for her constituents, she is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming session.
