The monks are undertaking a remarkable 2,300-mile journey from Texas to Washington, D.C., aimed at fostering peace and unity across the nation. Their visit to Decatur was marked by a poignant speech from Senator Warnock, who praised their commitment to putting faith into action.
Honor for a Peaceful Mission
During the event, Senator Warnock highlighted the significance of their mission. “These monks understand, as did Georgia’s greatest son, Martin Luther King, Jr., that it’s not simply enough to pray for peace with our lips,” he stated. “We must pray with our legs. Senator Warnock took a moment to acknowledge the resilience of one of the monks, Venerable Phra-Ajarnh Maha Dam Phommasan, who had been struck by a car earlier in the journey. The accident resulted in the amputation of his leg. “While we are excited by their arrival, let us not forget that this journey has not been easy,” Warnock remarked. “We are especially keeping him in our prayers while he recovers at home in Snellville. He is a son of Georgia, and we pray for his continual healing and peace.”

Senator Warnock serves as the Senior Pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, a historic site once led by Dr. King himself. Since 2005, he has been dedicated to both spiritual guidance and community activism.
