The Purina Foundation has awarded a total of $1,165,000 in grants to 27 nonprofit organizations throughout the United States in 2025, reaffirming its commitment to community support and animal welfare. Established by William H. Danforth, the founder of Nestlé Purina PetCare, the Foundation continues to uphold the company’s philanthropic legacy by addressing critical needs in the communities where it operates.
Fostering Human-Pet Bonds
In its efforts to enhance the relationship between people and pets, the Purina Foundation prioritized organizations and programs that improve access to pet care and veterinary services. Significant grants this year included $100,000 to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for renovating its Family Pet Center and $75,000 to the Watertown Humane Society in Wisconsin to build a new veterinary resource clinic for shelter and community pets.
Other notable contributions included $50,000 to the North Scott Community School District near Davenport, Iowa, for purchasing veterinary science and technology equipment, and $30,000 to the Iowa Central Community College Foundation to support its veterinary training program, which provides free care to local shelter pets. The Foundation also awarded $20,000 to the Friends of the Animal Shelter in St. Joseph, Missouri, for new equipment at its onsite veterinary clinic.
In addition, the Purina Foundation supported Flagstaff Shelter Services in Arizona with $25,000 to create a pet-friendly emergency shelter for the local unhoused community. This initiative reflects the Foundation’s broader aim to foster deeper connections between individuals and their pets.
Investing in Education and Community Development
Recognizing the importance of education and engagement, the Purina Foundation also provided grants aimed at enhancing community resources. This included $40,000 to the Clinton County Agricultural Society for renovations to a community center used by local 4-H clubs in Iowa, and $50,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa County for expanding its teen center in Miami, Oklahoma.
Other educational initiatives supported by the Foundation included $25,000 to the Folds of Honor Foundation for a scholarship program benefiting family members of fallen and disabled veterans. The Stars and Stripes National Museum and Library in Bloomfield, Missouri, received $30,000 for renovating exhibits and creating a community education program aimed at local youth.
The Purina Foundation also contributed $15,000 to the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Dunkirk, New York, to expand its Chautauqua County 4-H Dog Program.
Community Support and Disaster Relief Initiatives
As part of its commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen, the Purina Foundation has worked to improve community lives through various initiatives. In 2025, it supported the United Way of Greater St. Louis, which serves over 1 million individuals by providing essential services like healthcare, education, and financial security. The Foundation also provided $20,000 to the Denver Police Foundation to launch a new community engagement program called “Pups on Patrol.”
Additionally, the Purina Foundation responded to natural disasters that impacted U.S. communities this year. Following an EF3 tornado in St. Louis, the Foundation granted funds to the St. Louis Community Foundation and United Way of Greater St. Louis for cleanup and relief efforts. It also supported Greater Good Charities in their initiatives for victims of the Southern California wildfire and flood relief efforts in Central Texas.
Since its establishment in 1951, the Purina Foundation has distributed over $1 million annually to nonprofits focused on supporting pets, people, and the environment. For more information about the Foundation’s initiatives and community support, visit the Purina website at www.purina.com.
