The month of September 2025 marks the observance of National Voter Registration Month, as proclaimed by the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office. Throughout this month, government agencies and organizations nationwide will focus on encouraging voter participation and highlighting the importance of maintaining up-to-date voter registration information.
Michael Watson, the Mississippi Secretary of State, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “The right to vote is one of the greatest civil liberties in our country, and registering to vote is the first step toward successfully participating in the electoral process. I’m proud of our continued efforts to help register all eligible Mississippians to exercise this civil duty.”
Encouraging Voter Participation
The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established National Voter Registration Month in 2002 to promote awareness of voter registration processes and deadlines. This year, September 16 will be recognized as National Voter Registration Day, a day dedicated to mobilizing efforts to register voters. Since the day’s inception in 2012, over six million Americans have registered or updated their voter registration on this significant occasion.
