Joy-Anna Duggar has addressed criticism from some followers regarding her parenting choices, specifically concerning her decision to repaint her daughter Evelyn’s bedroom. On October 24, 2023, Duggar shared her plans to change the color of Evelyn’s hot pink walls to a more neutral shade as part of a home renovation project.
In a post on her Instagram Stories, Duggar explained her vision for the space. She stated, “Definitely not going for this style… Evelyn is sad to see the bright pink go but I promised her we will make her room sooo cute!” She described her plans for a design that blends French country and cottage core aesthetics, featuring natural tones and antique pieces.
After revealing her renovation plans, Duggar faced backlash from some followers, who accused her of stifling her daughter’s creativity. One comment stated, “Sad you don’t let your kids express themselves. She loves the color but of course you have to crush her creativity #badparenting.” Another follower remarked, “It’s so sad you’re forcing her style on her.”
In response to the criticism, Duggar provided further context for her decision. She clarified, “We’re redoing the WHOLE house… NEW drywall, new paint, everything.” She reassured her followers that while the bright pink walls would be replaced, she would still allow Evelyn to choose fun decor and bedding. Duggar emphasized, “But saying no to neon walls doesn’t make me a bad mom.”
Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth, welcomed Evelyn in 2020. The couple also has two sons, Gideon and Gunner, born in 2018 and 2023, respectively. The family has previously faced challenges, including the stillbirth of their daughter Annabell at 20 weeks in 2019. Duggar has spoken candidly about the emotional toll of that experience, describing the delivery process as “extremely hard” but noting that she had a supportive team during that difficult time.
As a prominent figure in reality television, Duggar is known for her appearances on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting and its spinoff, Counting On. Her responses to critics reflect her commitment to both her family and her vision for their home.
