Joseph T. James, a respected businessman and cherished family member, passed away on January 12, 2026, at the age of 77. He was well-known in his community of Dallas, PA, where he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His legacy lives on through his family, including his wife of 58 years, Janie Schultz, and their three daughters, Tammy Valvo, Jodi Patton, and Jennie James.
Joe was born to Gordon and Helen (Fisher) James and grew up helping to support his family from a young age, taking on responsibilities as early as the eighth grade. He transitioned through various jobs before becoming a distributor for Kirby, a role that allowed him to create opportunities for numerous employees. His work ethic and dedication to providing for his family were hallmarks of his character.
Throughout his life, Joe was passionate about horse racing, frequently visiting Pocono Downs where he enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was known for his spunky personality and charm, which endeared him to many.
Joe’s family reflects on his life with fondness and gratitude. He is survived by his daughters, their husbands, Jeff Valvo and Dave Patton, and his grandchildren, Tara Patton, Morgan Valvo, and Bradley Valvo. The family also remembers the loss of his grandson, Josh Patton, who passed away as a baby. They take comfort in believing that Joe is now reunited with him.
In honor of Joe’s remarkable life, his family invites all who knew him to celebrate his memory on Saturday, January 24, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kunkle Community Center. This gathering will serve as an opportunity for friends and family to share stories and reflect on the impactful life Joe lived, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength.
Joe’s passing has created a profound void in the hearts of those who loved him. Yet, the memories of his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support will continue to resonate within his family and community.
