John Pombier Takes Charge as Chandler’s City Manager Until 2027

The City Council of Chandler has formally appointed John Pombier as the city manager, a position he will hold until June 2027. Pombier, who has been serving as the acting city manager since July 2023, received unanimous approval from the council during their recent meeting. His appointment marks a pivotal moment in the city’s governance as he steps into a role vital for overseeing Chandler’s daily operations and implementing council-approved policies.

In his acceptance of the position, Pombier conveyed a deep appreciation for the community. He stated, “I’ve always admired the greatness of Chandler, and these past few months have produced first-hand experiences demonstrating why our community is such a special place.” This sentiment reflects his commitment to serving the residents and fostering the city’s unique character, as highlighted in the official announcement from the city.

Experience and Background

Pombier is no stranger to public service, boasting a career that spans over two decades. Before his tenure in Chandler, he served for 19 years with the City of Mesa, where he held significant roles, including 11 years as assistant city manager and a previous position as city prosecutor. His extensive experience is complemented by his work at the Arizona Governor’s Office, where he contributed to initiatives aimed at combating family violence.

His educational qualifications further bolster his candidacy. Pombier earned a law degree from Arizona State University and holds an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Michigan. These credentials equip him with the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of municipal governance and support Chandler’s diverse population and business landscape.

The Role and Responsibilities

As city manager, Pombier will oversee a range of critical functions, including managing city operations and coordinating with other key city officials, such as the city attorney, city clerk, and presiding magistrate. This role is essential for ensuring that Chandler continues to thrive and meet the needs of its residents.

The City Council’s decision to appoint Pombier underscores their confidence in his leadership abilities and vision for the city. With a focus on community engagement and operational efficiency, Pombier aims to guide Chandler towards a prosperous future, reinforcing its reputation as a vibrant and welcoming place for all.

As he embarks on this new chapter, Pombier’s leadership will be instrumental in shaping policies that impact the lives of Chandler’s residents and the overall growth of the community.
