Gunman Kills Four in Manhattan Office Shooting, Police Officer Among Victims

A gunman opened fire on the evening of July 28, 2025, in a prominent office building located at 345 Park Avenue, Manhattan, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and leaving a fifth in critical condition. The shooter, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the attack, according to statements from New York City officials.

Details of the Attack

Among those killed was Didarul Islam, a police officer with the New York Police Department, who was commended by Mayor Eric Adams during a briefing following the incident. Islam, a Bangladeshi immigrant, was noted for his dedication to protecting the citizens of New York. “Police Officer Didarul Islam represents the very best of our department. He was protecting New Yorkers from danger,” the NYPD stated in a message.

The shooting occurred in a building that houses high-profile tenants, including KPMG and Blackstone. Mayor Adams confirmed that an employee of the National Football League was among the seriously injured. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reported that the injured individual is currently hospitalized but in stable condition.

Following the investigation, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch provided a harrowing account of the events. Surveillance footage indicated that Tamura, armed with an M4 rifle, began the attack by shooting a woman who sought shelter behind a pillar. He then moved through the lobby, “spraying it with gunfire,” before targeting a security guard behind a desk and another man before entering an elevator.

Investigation and Response

Tamura ultimately died on the 33rd floor of the building, where he fatally shot one additional person. Commissioner Tisch revealed that the suspect had a documented history of mental health issues, and the motives for his actions are still under investigation. Officers located a revolver and ammunition in a vehicle that was double-parked outside the building.

In response to the incident, agents from the FBI were deployed to assist the NYPD, as confirmed by Deputy Director Dan Bongino. Pam Bondi, the Attorney General, indicated that a command post had been established by U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton to facilitate the investigation.

This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns regarding gun violence and mental health in the United States. The New York City community mourns the loss of lives and reflects on the sacrifices made by law enforcement officials in their duty to protect citizens.
