The City of Elizabethton is actively inviting artists to participate in a project aimed at celebrating the community’s rich manufacturing history through a large-scale mural. This initiative will feature an industrial theme and is set to be displayed prominently at the gateway to downtown, specifically on the exterior wall of Tailored Hair Co. located at 405 E. Elk Ave.
The mural project is a collaborative effort between the City of Elizabethton and Main Street Elizabethton, designed to showcase the area’s deep industrial roots. The artwork will span an impressive 600 square feet, highlighting the craftsmanship and manufacturing heritage that have significantly contributed to the economic landscape of Carter County.
Planned in a sepia-toned, vintage style, the mural aims to evoke the textures and imagery of early 20th-century Elizabethton. It seeks to reflect the community’s historical significance and the impact of its manufacturing legacy, engaging both residents and visitors alike.
Artists interested in contributing to this project are required to submit a Request for Qualifications application by 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025. Detailed information and application materials can be accessed on the City of Elizabethton’s official website at elizabethton.org.
This initiative not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of downtown Elizabethton but also serves as a reminder of the community’s storied past in manufacturing. By inviting artists to express this legacy through their work, the city aims to foster a greater appreciation for its industrial heritage while encouraging local talent.
The mural will be a vital addition to the downtown landscape, reinforcing community pride and highlighting the transformative role of manufacturing in shaping Elizabethton’s identity.
