Dawn Brown has officially stepped into the role of mayor of Fontanelle, following her appointment during the city council meeting on October 3, 2023. Her appointment comes after the resignation of Michael Walker, who departed the community for personal reasons. Brown previously served as mayor pro-tem and has been an active council member since her election in 2022.
In her first remarks as mayor, Brown expressed her commitment to the community. “I ran for council to continue helping this wonderful town strive and be a place everyone else wants to call home,” she stated. Despite her extensive experience with council meetings, she admitted feeling nervous about the new responsibilities that come with the mayor’s position.
The council has been addressing several key issues recently. Current discussions include hiring a new police officer, managing nuisance complaints, and updating local ordinances. Brown mentioned that the council has conducted several working meetings to ensure that ordinances are current and to communicate important information about lawn care, weed management, and property maintenance to the community.
As a full-time employee at Cardinal IG, Brown balances her professional life with her civic duties. She is also active in community organizations, including the Fontanelle Enterprise Club, and she participates in fundraising efforts for the local fire department, where her husband, Ryan Brown, serves as a firefighter.
Looking ahead, Brown plans to run for office again in the upcoming election on November 4. While she is undecided whether to pursue a full term as mayor or return to the city council, she emphasizes her dedication to serving the community. “I want to ensure I am doing right by the community and make sure I can dedicate the allotted time for the mayor’s role,” she remarked.
With her appointment, the residents of Fontanelle can expect to see continued efforts in community engagement and local governance as Dawn Brown takes on her new responsibilities.
