Westfield Intermediate School Honors Veterans in Heartfelt Assembly

A heartfelt assembly at Westfield Intermediate School on Veterans Day brought together students, families, and veterans to honor those who served in the military. The event, held in the school’s auditorium, featured a poignant tribute that recognized individual veterans and highlighted their sacrifices, creating a memorable experience for all in attendance.

The assembly commenced with a color guard presentation, followed by a stirring rendition of the national anthem performed by the school chorus. This set a respectful and celebratory tone for the gathering. Among the veterans honored was Navy veteran Gary Fontaine, who served as the narrator for a special segment explaining the significance of the American flag. Fontaine detailed the meaning behind the 13 folds of the flag, which represent various ideals such as freedom and sacrifice.

The ceremony included a touching moment when a sixth grader shared a few words of praise for his grandfather, a veteran present in the audience. This personal acknowledgment not only emphasized the familial bonds but also underscored the impact of military service on future generations.

In a symbolic gesture, Cindy LaCoste and Cathy Martin folded a flag on stage, visually illustrating the narrative shared by Fontaine. This act served as a powerful reminder of the values upheld by those who have served in the armed forces.

The assembly concluded with the audience expressing their gratitude through applause, reinforcing the importance of honoring veterans not just on Veterans Day but throughout the year. The heartfelt sentiments expressed during the event captured the essence of community support for those who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation.

This gathering at Westfield Intermediate School exemplifies the lasting respect and appreciation that schools and communities can show for veterans, fostering a culture of remembrance and gratitude among young people.
