TikTok Trend: Cleaning Carpets with Watermelons Gains Popularity

A quirky cleaning hack is taking over TikTok, with users placing watermelons on their vacuum cleaners to enhance suction power. This unconventional method has sparked curiosity and debate among cleaning enthusiasts online.

The trend, popularized by TikTok user @justhaimomthings, has garnered significant attention, amassing over 4.2 million views and 191,000 likes at the time of writing. In her viral video, Hailey humorously suggests, “Whoever said to use a watermelon to clean your carpets, I hope you win the jackpot.” While her demonstration features a carpet cleaning machine, many users have adapted the idea for standard vacuum cleaners.

The rationale behind this method lies in the added weight of the watermelon, which is believed to increase pressure on the vacuum, thereby improving its suction. While some users have commented that any weight will suffice, the novelty of using a watermelon has caught on, making cleaning seem more enjoyable.

Testing the Watermelon Hack

Intrigued by the trend, I decided to put the watermelon hack to the test. The initial setup involved placing a watermelon atop my vacuum, mirroring the technique seen in various TikTok videos. However, as soon as I began to move the vacuum, the watermelon rolled off, prompting a cautious approach to avoid damage to both the fruit and my flooring.

Maintaining control of the watermelon proved challenging, requiring a slow and steady pace. Despite the initial difficulties, the concept appeared to hold merit. The extra weight seemed to push the vacuum deeper into the carpet, enhancing its cleaning effectiveness.

However, I found myself questioning the impact of the added weight on my vacuum’s performance. Maneuvering the vacuum became cumbersome, and the time investment necessary to maintain the watermelon in place made the process feel less efficient.

The Results: Is it Worth It?

Ultimately, the results were mixed. The vacuum did deliver a deeper clean, as evidenced by the noticeable improvement in carpet appearance and the amount of dirt collected. Yet, the use of a watermelon introduced complications that diminished the overall practicality of the method.

While the theory behind using weight to enhance vacuum performance is sound, employing a watermelon—known for its propensity to roll—may not be the best choice. Alternatives such as a bag of rice or a heavier object could provide the necessary weight without the hassle of constant adjustment.

In conclusion, while the watermelon hack offers an entertaining twist on carpet cleaning, it may not be the most efficient approach. For those looking to experiment, exploring other weight options might yield better results without the chaotic challenges of balancing a fruit on a vacuum.
