The voting period, which lasted for 12 days, saw community members supporting their favorite local businesses across 104 categories, ranging from dining establishments to automotive services.
According to Armando Gutierrez, the Advertising Director of the Temple Daily Telegram, the enthusiasm among residents was palpable. “It’s voted by the people that actually go to their businesses,” he noted. “They’re local people, so the business owners are super pumped about it when they get it.” This grassroots approach not only highlights community engagement but also fosters a sense of pride among local entrepreneurs.
Winners of the Reader’s Choice Awards can be found in the print edition of the Temple Daily Telegram and on its E-edition online. The awards serve as a significant recognition for local businesses, with victorious establishments receiving an 11×17 inch card stock sign to display. Many businesses take this opportunity to enhance their visibility; some modify their menus to reflect their award status, while others showcase their accolades on walls or in windows to attract potential customers.
Gutierrez expressed excitement about notifying the winners, sharing that this was his first year participating in the awards process. “It was really cool to get to break the news for the first time,” he said. The winners include both perennial favorites and first-time awardees, reflecting a diverse range of local businesses.
The voting process allowed residents to submit their nominations before selecting their preferred businesses, with each voter able to cast a vote once per day during the 12-day campaign. Each vote was verified by hand by Telegram employees, ensuring the integrity of the results. Gutierrez emphasized the success of the campaign, describing it as “really successful” and highlighting its role in celebrating local entrepreneurship.
