Students at Clara Barton-Hawthorne Elementary in Fargo participated in a spirited walk-a-thon on September 24, 2023, transforming the event into a vibrant run-a-thon. Hundreds of students joined in, earning a bracelet for each lap completed, showcasing their enthusiasm while raising funds for essential educational resources.
The walk-a-thon is part of a series of fundraising events across Fargo’s schools, aimed at supporting teacher resources and supplies. At Clara Barton-Hawthorne, the funds generated will also contribute to the school’s fall festival and family winter dance. The ambitious goal for this year is set at $10,000, and according to Heather Johnson, co-president of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the community is making significant progress towards achieving that target.
Johnson emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating, “We work really hard to support our teachers and our administrative staff, the paras, everybody, the kitchen. We just really hope that we can earn some money and we can put it toward the people that work so hard to give our kids a great education.”
The enthusiasm for fundraising is evident not just at Clara Barton-Hawthorne but also at neighboring schools like Ed Clapp Elementary. There, students who raise the most funds will enjoy unique rewards, including the chance to be “principal for the day,” “PE teacher for the day,” or “librarian for the day.”
These initiatives not only foster school spirit but also create a sense of community involvement, encouraging students to engage in activities that support their education. The fun and competitive nature of the events serve to motivate students further, making them a memorable part of the school year.
As the school year progresses, the efforts of students, parents, and staff alike continue to highlight the dedication of the Fargo community toward enhancing educational experiences for their children. The funds raised through events like the walk-a-thon are vital for ensuring that schools have the necessary resources to provide quality education and enriching activities.
