Heavy rain accompanied the state funeral of Try Sutrisno, the sixth Vice President of Indonesia, held at TMP Kalibata in Pancoran, South Jakarta, on March 2, 2026. The solemn ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries and featured military honors, reflecting the significant role Sutrisno played in the nation’s history.
Military Honors and Tributes
The funeral service commenced with a volley of gunfire, a traditional military salute that set a respectful tone for the proceedings. Sutrisno’s coffin, draped in the national flag of Indonesia, was transported on a metal carriage. Accompanying the coffin was a soldier holding a portrait of the late vice president, while another soldier carried a floral tribute, emphasizing the deep respect afforded to the former leader.
The ceremony was presided over by President Prabowo Subianto, who spoke highly of Sutrisno’s contributions to Indonesia. “May his path of service serve as an example for all of us, and may his spirit find a place of honor with God,” Prabowo stated during his address at TMP Kalibata. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming was also present, standing alongside President Prabowo to pay their final respects.
