The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) achieved significant recognition by winning five prestigious awards at the Society of Professional Journalists Oklahoma Pro Chapter’s 2025 awards. The competition featured over 400 entries from various organizations and media outlets across the state, judged by professionals from New Jersey and Tennessee.
Notable Recognitions for OMRF
Among its accolades, OMRF’s magazine, Findings, clinched first place in the category of outstanding public relations publication. This victory marks the fourth occasion that the magazine, distributed to over 30,000 supporters, has received top honors in this category, underscoring its consistent quality and impact.
Editor-in-chief Adam Cohen was awarded first prize in feature writing for his compelling piece titled “The Searcher.” This profile highlights Gabriel Pardo, M.D., the founding director of OMRF’s Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence, showcasing the foundation’s commitment to innovative research and patient care.
OMRF’s annual report also garnered recognition, winning an award for outstanding graphics. The report celebrated the foundation’s 77th birthday by featuring 77 individuals pivotal to its mission. Judges praised the publication, noting its engaging design and vibrant presentation, which set it apart from typical annual reports. “I have read and edited a lot of annual reports, and the majority are something only someone internal would open and read,” the judges remarked. “This is the exception, with a fresh look, vibrant colors, excellent presentation, and engaging content. Very, very well done.”
Additional Awards for Creativity
In addition to these honors, OMRF received first place awards for its employee newsletter, the Bunsen Burner, and a promotional poster created by OMRF creative director Jenny Lee for a fundraising concert featuring Tommy James and the Shondells. These accolades reflect OMRF’s dedication to effective communication and community engagement, highlighting its efforts to connect with both its supporters and the broader public.
The recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists not only celebrates OMRF’s achievements in public relations and communications but also reinforces its role as a leader in medical research and advocacy in Oklahoma.
