Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, New York, is set to undergo a significant rebranding, transforming its name to Golisano Children’s Hospital following a landmark donation of $50 million. This contribution marks the largest financial gift in the history of both the hospital and the Kaleida Health Network. The announcement signals a new chapter in pediatric care for the region.
Don Boyd, CEO of Kaleida Health, expressed the profound significance of this donation during a recent event, stating, “It means so much to now be a part of a network of children’s hospitals that have the honor of bearing his name. It’s the largest gift to a healthcare organization in Western New York’s history.” The rebranding is not merely a change in name but reflects an extensive network of support for children’s health care.
Golisano Children’s Hospital will become the third facility to carry the Golisano name in New York, joining existing hospitals in Rochester and Syracuse. There is also a Golisano Children’s Hospital in Southwest Florida, indicating a growing regional initiative focused on pediatric care. With approximately 2,000 employees dedicated to providing specialized services, the hospital is poised to enhance its capabilities and resources.
The collaboration with the Golisano network promises additional benefits for families seeking pediatric care. Erica Dayton, Executive Director of the Golisano Foundation, highlighted the advantages of this partnership, stating, “They’re going to work together on fundraising and on resources. This really helps elevate and strengthen the hospitals and the resources that they have at their fingertips.” This integrated approach aims to ensure that families have access to comprehensive care across multiple facilities.
With the rebranding, the Oishei Foundation will transition from being the primary supporter of the hospital. Christina Orsi, President of the Oishei Foundation, affirmed that while the foundation will remain involved, its focus will shift towards neighborhood investment and community development, particularly in initiatives aimed at families.
In September 2023, Tom Golisano, founder of the Golisano Foundation, announced a broader philanthropic initiative, pledging over $350 million to more than 80 nonprofits across New York State. This ambitious plan includes substantial donations to various institutions, such as $10 million to Niagara Memorial Medical Center and $5 million to Daemen University. The recent increase in the planned donation to Oishei Children’s Hospital from $10 million to $50 million exemplifies a significant commitment to enhancing health care services in the region.
As the rebranding takes effect, the community anticipates a strengthened network of pediatric services, supported by substantial financial backing. The collaborative efforts among the Golisano-supported institutions are expected to foster improved health outcomes for children in Western New York, making this transition a pivotal moment for the region’s healthcare landscape.
