Lorraine F. Lease, a dedicated educator and community volunteer, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospice in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on January 9, 2026. She was 94 years old and had been residing at Moravian Village. Lorraine was the widow of George M. Lease, who died on February 22, 2003.
Born on December 11, 1931, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, Lorraine was the daughter of Robert Florey and Cora (Woodring) Florey. After completing her studies at Liberty High School, she earned her teaching degree from Kutztown University and later a Master’s degree in Education from Lehigh University. Lorraine dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching elementary education, with two decades spent in the Bethlehem Area School District.
Following her retirement, Lorraine and her husband embraced an active lifestyle, enjoying travel, tennis, golf, and skiing. She was a passionate reader and found joy in crossword puzzles. Lorraine also sang with the Moravian Village chorus and cherished moments spent with friends and neighbors, often enjoying outings for lunch.
A strong advocate for community service, Lorraine volunteered for several organizations, including Meals on Wheels, the Allentown Art Museum, Cops n’ Kids, and the New Bethany soup kitchen. Her commitment to helping others reflected her values and dedication to her community. Lorraine was a long-time member of the Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem.
She is survived by her sisters, Althea Lazun of Bethlehem and Joyce Hess (Howard) of Hempstead, North Carolina. Additionally, Lorraine leaves behind stepdaughters Joan Johnson of Gainesville, Georgia, and Susan Baier of Snowflake, Arizona, along with six step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, six step-great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Roberta Florey.
Memorial Service and Contributions
A memorial service to honor Lorraine’s life will take place at the Central Moravian Chapel on March 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM. A private family inurnment is planned for a later date at Bethlehem Memorial Park.
