Local Churches Plan Vibrant Worship Services and Community Events

Several local churches in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, are organizing a variety of worship services and community events to foster spirituality and support for their congregations. This week, many of these institutions will celebrate significant religious occasions, including the upcoming observance of Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent.

Worship Services and Special Events

St. John’s United Church of Christ will celebrate Transfiguration Sunday on February 15 at 10:15 a.m. All are welcome to attend in person at 11 S. Price St. For those unable to join, the service will be available for later viewing on YouTube. Additionally, the church will host a virtual Ash Wednesday service, accessible at the congregation’s convenience. The church also maintains the Little Pantry, stocked weekly with essential items for community members in need, and is currently collecting food to support Operation 143.

At the First Presbyterian Church of Pottstown, located at 750 N. Evans St., worship services will take place on February 15, with Faith and Friendship meetings starting at 9:15 a.m., followed by worship at 10:30 a.m.

Zion’s United Church of Christ, situated at Hanover and Chestnut Streets, will also celebrate Transfiguration Sunday at 10:15 a.m. The service can be viewed online via Facebook. The church will jointly host Ash Wednesday services with Trinity Reformed UCC on February 18 at 7 p.m., with Rev. Raymond Jachowski preaching.

At Bethel Community Church, services will commence with Community Sunday School at 10:00 a.m., followed by Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m., focusing on Transfiguration Sunday. The church will also conduct a “Church Conference” after the service and will hold a food pantry, which will be closed on February 18 and reopen on February 23.

Continued Community Engagement

Harvest Fellowship Church, located at 584 Colebrookdale Road, invites congregants to worship at 10:15 a.m. on February 15, where Pastor Andrew will continue a sermon series on the Book of Judges. The church also offers midweek programs for different age groups on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, at 564 Glasgow St., will observe the Sixth Sunday after Epiphany with a Holy Communion service at 9:30 a.m. on February 15, welcoming visitors to join in worship. The church will conduct an Ash Wednesday Holy Communion service on February 18 at 7 p.m.

For those attending St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Mass will be celebrated on February 15 at 9:00 a.m. Additional services for Ash Wednesday will occur at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on February 18, with confessions available beforehand.

Trinity Reformed UCC will offer drop-in ashes and meditation on February 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by their Ash Wednesday service at 7:00 p.m. The church provides various support groups throughout the week, including Alcoholics Anonymous.

Finally, Holy Trinity Orthodox Church will host its Annual Spring Bazaar on March 28, featuring traditional Easter foods and homemade baked goods. This event is expected to attract community members seeking culturally significant holiday items.

These churches exemplify a commitment to both worship and community support, providing essential services and fellowship opportunities for their congregants.
