Ford has introduced a special edition of the 2025 Bronco, paying homage to renowned motorsports figure Bill Stroppe. This new model is part of Ford’s successful revival of the Bronco, which continues to capture the attention of off-road enthusiasts and casual drivers alike. According to Todd Zuercher, a noted Bronco historian, the vehicle has maintained its popularity five years after its re-release, with many spotting them on roads and trails.
The Stroppe Edition features a striking color scheme reminiscent of Stroppe’s racing legacy, combining an orangey red, white, and dark metallic blue. Stroppe’s influence on the Bronco began shortly after its debut in the 1966 model year. He quickly became involved with Ford, securing victories in significant desert races like the Baja 500 and Baja 1000. Zuercher notes, “He got involved immediately with Ford, and the victories started very quickly with him and his team.”
In the spirit of racing legends, the Stroppe Edition also reflects a significant heritage. From 1971 to 1975, customers could order a Baja Bronco directly from Ford, which would then be modified at the Stroppe and Associates shop in Long Beach. Restored examples of these original Baja Broncos have become highly sought after, now selling for six figures. Zuercher remarked, “In the past eight or ten years, they’ve really gone into the stratosphere in terms of pricing.”
The new model maintains the Bronco’s rugged capability while offering comfort for everyday driving. With a base MSRP of $77,530, it is equipped with numerous features, making it a competitive option in the off-road vehicle market. The Stroppe Edition stands out not only for its aesthetics but also for its performance, ensuring that drivers will command attention wherever they go.
Ford’s strategy reflects a broader trend among automobile manufacturers to highlight their models’ heritage. For example, when Toyota reintroduced the Land Cruiser last year, it incorporated design elements reminiscent of the original model from 1958. Similarly, Jeep continues to draw on its history with limited editions like the 2025 Wrangler Willys ’41, which pays tribute to the iconic vehicles of World War II.
As SUVs become increasingly ubiquitous, the Stroppe Edition Bronco clearly sets itself apart. Its distinctive design and historical significance are likely to resonate with enthusiasts and collectors alike, solidifying Ford’s commitment to honoring its legacy while adapting to modern consumer preferences.
