Eleanor Lorraine Avey, aged 90, passed away on January 31, 2026, in Bristol, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of joy. Born on July 30, 1935, in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late John and Karolina (Kristinski) Iskra. Known for her vibrant spirit, Lorraine brought laughter and warmth to those around her.
Lorraine had a profound love for the ocean, often spending summers in Maine with her sister. Her passion for outdoor activities included skiing in the mountains, where she was well known for her delightful brown and white bars that became a favorite among family and friends. Her ability to connect with others made her a beloved figure in her community. She had a unique talent for humor and silliness, which endeared her to everyone she met.
Family and Legacy
Lorraine is survived by her son, Brian Avey, and his wife, Theresa, of Newington; her daughter, Lynn Anderson, and her husband, Robert, of Plymouth. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Sherry Starrett, Donna Desorbo, Gary Zyla, Janet Zabel, Tom Lavoie, Pat Favreau, and William Delfino. Lorraine was predeceased by her step-mother, Anna (Bogdanski) Mlynarski, her niece Dale Delfino, and several siblings, including Jean Kalish, Henry Iskra, and Florence Greenwood.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Ingram Manor and the Bristol Hospital Hospice team for their compassionate care during Lorraine’s final days.
Memorial Services
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at O’Brien Funeral Home, located at 24 Lincoln Avenue, Bristol, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 17:00 to 19:00. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 10:00, with burial to follow at Forestville Cemetery in Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Fidelco Guide Dogs, an organization dedicated to providing guide dogs to individuals in need.
