The Dearborn Inn has unveiled its newly renovated Colonial Homes, offering a unique lodging experience that immerses guests in American history. Originally built by Henry Ford in 1931, the inn has undergone extensive renovations and now features five colonial-style houses that pay homage to iconic American figures, including Edgar Allan Poe and Walt Whitman. This offering is part of the inn’s evolution as it continues to blend modern hospitality with its rich historical roots.
Renowned architect Albert Kahn designed the Dearborn Inn to accommodate travelers visiting Ford Airport. The inn reopened earlier this year under the management of Ford Land as part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection. The recent revival introduces the Colonial Homes, which were originally constructed in 1937 as tribute replicas. Now refreshed, these homes expand the inn’s accommodations to a total of 153 guest rooms.
Each Colonial Home is carefully crafted to reflect the life and legacy of its namesake. General Manager Joleisha Bradley emphasized the experience of “living inside” history while enjoying modern comforts. “Our motto is ‘Let your imagination take flight,’ and you can do that in these homes,” she stated.
Distinctive Accommodations Inspired by American Icons
The Colonial Homes feature notable figures from American literature and politics, with each residence showcasing architectural details and decor that resonate with its namesake. For example, the Patrick Henry House includes artwork reflecting his passion for hunting, while the Walt Whitman House incorporates elements that celebrate nature, inspired by his famous poem, “Leaves of Grass.”
Pricing for the Colonial Homes ranges from $355 to $1,140 per night, depending on the specific home and date. The largest option, the Patrick Henry House, accommodates up to six guests in individual suite rooms, making it suitable for families or groups. Bradley noted that renting the entire home presents a unique opportunity for guests seeking a more intimate experience.

Guests at the Colonial Homes have access to the inn’s amenities, including the restaurant Clara’s Table, which is inspired by Clara Ford’s gardens, and the Four Vagabonds cocktail lounge, named after Henry Ford’s road-tripping group. The inn also showcases displays of Ford Archives artifacts and historic memorabilia.
Bradley highlighted the significance of the Dearborn Inn, stating, “It’s a piece of living history.” The addition of the Colonial Homes represents a new way for visitors to connect with the past while enjoying modern amenities. The property is located on a 23-acre site, just steps away from Greenfield Village and The Henry Ford Museum.
As the Dearborn Inn continues to evolve, it aims to offer guests a glimpse into the rich tapestry of American heritage, blending history with modern hospitality.
