Gilbert H. Andrews, a cherished member of the East Hartford community, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at the age of 84. He was the devoted husband of Mary (Gilmister) Andrews for 49 years. Born on October 22, 1941, in Hartford, he was the son of the late Willard and Adelaide (McKinney) Andrews. His life was marked by a deep commitment to family, a successful career in industrial manufacturing, and a passion for sports.
A Life Dedicated to Family and Community
Gil grew up in Glastonbury and graduated from Glastonbury High School, where he laid the foundation for a long and fruitful career. Known for his determination and practical wisdom, he enjoyed a successful tenure in the manufacturing sector. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gil was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He actively participated in numerous sports, including softball, horseshoes, golf, and bowling, continuing to bowl regularly until August of the previous year.
His love for sports extended beyond participation; he was an ardent supporter of his children and grandson. Gil took great pride in attending their athletic events, always cheering them on with enthusiasm. He was also known for his generosity, often helping family and friends with various projects and spending quality time playing games with loved ones.
Legacy and Farewell
Gil is survived by his three children: Paul Andrews and his wife Jolene of Marlborough, Karolyn Andrews of Manchester, and Bill Andrews of Goshen. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Colin Reilly and Alicia Andrews, and siblings Louise Macca of East Hartford, Gary Andrews of Norwalk, and David Andrews and his wife Brenda of Hebron. The family also includes nephews and the Paulus Family.
Gil was predeceased by his parents and his son, Gil Andrews, as well as his in-laws, Sebastian Macca and Leslie Andrews. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the North American Martyrs Parish – St. Mary’s Church, located at 15 Maplewood Ave, East Hartford. Guests are kindly requested to go directly to the church for the service. Following the Mass, burial will take place at Green Cemetery in Glastonbury.
