Christena “Christy” Marie Wiseman, a beloved educator and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on October 24, 1941, in Chico, California, Christy dedicated much of her life to teaching French and English, primarily at Reno High School. Her passion for education and commitment to her students left an indelible mark on many lives.
Throughout her career, Christy was more than just a teacher; she was a lifelong learner and a creative spirit. Her interests extended beyond the classroom to include writing, music, travel, and quilting, reflecting her vibrant personality. She was deeply loved by her family and friends, who remember her as a nurturing and inspiring figure.
Christy is preceded in death by her late husband, Charles Beau Wiseman, her son, Richard “Gregory” Chacon, and his father, Richard L. Chacon. She also lost her parents, Dallas (Jack) and Blossom Myers, and her brother, Lew Myers. Despite these losses, Christy’s legacy lives on through her family.
She is survived by her children, Mark (Dawn) Chacon and Charles Thomas Wiseman III, as well as her grandchildren, including Taylor Salas, Omar Salas, Dallas Chacon, Regan Chacon, and Carson Chacon. Her great-grandchildren, Xavier Salas and Layla Salas, also carry forward her spirit. Additionally, her sister, Sally Brown, and numerous relatives and friends will remember her fondly.
In her later years, Christy found renewed love and happiness with her partner, Henry “Hank” Vanderleest. Their companionship added joy to her life, showcasing her enduring capacity for love and connection.
Celebration of Life Planned
A funeral service to honor Christy will be held on February 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Reno, NV. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will take place, allowing family and friends to share memories and celebrate the love, learning, and creativity that Christy embodied.
Christy’s impact as an educator and her legacy of love will be forever cherished by those who knew her. Her commitment to fostering a love for learning in her students and her vibrant personality will continue to inspire future generations.
