Frederick “Fred” Gribble, Jr., a beloved member of the Shavertown community, passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 6, 1939, he was the son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Finn Gribble. His contributions to both his family and the community were significant, marked by a career that spanned over four decades and a deep commitment to local organizations.
Fred graduated from GAR High School and dedicated more than 40 years to the produce department at Acme. After his tenure there, he worked as a driver for the Luzerne County Transportation Authority for over ten years, serving the community in yet another capacity. His work was characterized by a friendly demeanor and a commitment to service, fostering connections with both colleagues and customers.
Active Community Member and Music Enthusiast
A lifelong member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church, Fred was actively involved in the church choir, sharing his passion for music with others. He also lent his voice to the Orpheus Choir, showcasing his love for singing and contributing to the cultural fabric of the region.
Known for his unwavering support of the Philadelphia Eagles, Fred was a devoted fan who celebrated the team’s successes with enthusiasm. His passion for the sport was a key part of his identity and a topic of conversation among friends and family alike.
Fred’s personal life was marked by both joy and sorrow. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Gribble, in 2023, as well as his brothers, Ronald and William, and his cherished dog, Muffin. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Mudlock (Frank) and Jennifer Dent (John), along with grandchildren Stephanie Lombardo (Bernie), Brittany Mudlock, and Victoria Dent. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Luca and Gia Lombardo, and his sister, Elaine Lasecki, as well as sister-in-law Susan Jane Shoemaker.

Funeral services for Fred were conducted privately by Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. The family has requested privacy during this time of mourning, reflecting the deep loss felt by those who knew and loved him.
