Melba M. Bronson, an esteemed member of the Coleman, Florida community, passed away on January 20, 2026, at the age of 86. A lifelong resident of Coleman, Melba was cherished by her family and friends for her nurturing spirit and her dedication to the community.

Born on November 27, 1939, to Jasper and Edna Bronson, Melba exemplified the values of love and kindness throughout her life. A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Oxford, she actively participated in church activities, fostering connections with others in the community.
Melba was affectionately known as “Memaw” by her family, and she took great pride in caring for her loved ones. Her granddaughters—Jennifer Mower, Shannon Hunt, Stacey King, Ashley Fort, Kayla Brindac, and Haley Sapp—along with her thirteen great-grandchildren, will remember her for her warmth and supportive nature.
Passions and Talents
In addition to her role as a matriarch, Melba enjoyed various hobbies that reflected her love for nature and creativity. She spent many afternoons crocheting, gardening, and feeding birds, often found relaxing in her rocking chair, appreciating the beauty of the outdoors. Her skills extended beyond craft, as she was also a talented carpenter, known for constructing chicken coops, sheds, and porches.
Melba’s legacy will endure through the memories shared by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Mathis, who passed away in 1987, as well as her daughters Anita Tipton, Deena Bronson, and Tammy Hunt, and her ten siblings.
