Thomas Michael Ridpath, a dedicated husband, father, and community leader, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 81. His life was characterized by unwavering commitment to family, a successful career, and extensive community involvement.
Born on March 28, 1944, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Thomas was raised in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin. After graduating from Ft. Atkinson High School, he pursued higher education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Kansas University-Lawrence. During his college years, he was an active member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Following his academic achievements, Thomas relocated to Washington D.C., where he contributed to NASA and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). His professional career eventually transitioned to State Farm Insurance, where he garnered a reputation for integrity and dedication to his clients.
Thomas’s community involvement was extensive. He devoted his weekends to the Army National Guard, serving his country with pride. He was also a member of the Burke Rotary and the Methodist Church, where he generously offered his time and skills to various initiatives.
Passionate Interests and Legacy
A man of diverse interests, Thomas was an avid coin collector, enjoyed bowling and golf, and frequently engaged in spirited ping pong matches. His love for sports extended into coaching youth basketball, where he inspired young athletes through his mentorship and enthusiasm. Additionally, he was involved in real estate investing, showcasing his enterprising spirit.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Perry Weldon Ridpath and Susan Louise (Taber) Ridpath, as well as his brother, Lt. Col. Robert Ridpath. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharron Ridpath; his sons, Patrick Ridpath (Elizabeth) and Christopher Ridpath (Brandy); and his four cherished grandchildren, three granddaughters and one grandson. He is also fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Beth Ridpath, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Thomas’s remarkable life and legacy will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.
