Community Mourns the Loss of Roman Misorek, 80, of Duryea

Roman Misorek, an esteemed member of the Duryea community, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the age of 80. He died peacefully at his home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication to his family and community.

Born in Old Forge, Roman was the son of the late John and Tessie Zaloga Misorek. He graduated from Scranton Preparatory School and pursued higher education at the University of Scranton and the University of Florida. His professional life was spent working for the Department of Corrections, where he made numerous contributions prior to his retirement.

Roman was a devoted member of the Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea, where he actively participated in parish activities. In his younger years, he was also a member of the Duryea Lions Club, reflecting his commitment to community service.

Personal Life and Interests

Roman cherished his family life, celebrating his 31st wedding anniversary with his wife, Karen Smith, this past July 16th. He is survived by his wife, as well as several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

A passionate sports fan, Roman particularly enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles, and he took pride in being self-taught in computer skills, embracing technology throughout his life. His loved ones remember him for his warm spirit and zest for life.

Roman was preceded in death by his brothers, Martin, John, and Stanley, who also played significant roles in shaping his life.

Funeral Arrangements and Tributes

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, starting at 09:00 from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., located at 204 Main Street, Duryea. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 09:30 at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, situated at 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea. Roman will be interred at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Duryea. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a viewing on Friday, November 28, from 17:00 to 19:00 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Providence Pregnancy Center, located at 1660 North Main Avenue, Scranton, PA 18508, or to Pennsylvanians for Human Life, at 31 Hanover Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
