James D. Styer, aged 80, passed away on January 4, 2026, in Exeter Township, leaving behind a legacy of family, friendship, and community involvement. His passing marks a significant loss for those who knew him, especially his family and close friends.
Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, James was the son of the late John L. and Fern M. (Mengel) Styer. He graduated from Exeter High School in 1963 and went on to attend Penn State University. His commitment to service was evident in his proud tenure with the United States Army. After his military service, he became a well-respected figure in the electrical sales industry, working for many years at Progress Electric Supply before retiring from Colonial Electric Supply.
James is survived by his children, Andrew J. Styer, who is engaged to Kimberly Moyer, and Paula Styer, who is married to Kelly Eghujovbo, both of whom carry on his spirit. He was a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren: Evan Styer (fiancé Katie Nunn), Luke Styer, Nathan Styer, Aiden Tobias, and Henry Moyer-Daniels.
In addition to his immediate family, he is remembered by his brothers, John Styer and Joel Styer, as well as his brothers-in-law, Paul “Kenny” Kline and Leonard Readinger. He shared a close bond with his friend and travel companion, Roxann Frain, and was also fond of his beloved cat, “B.C.”
