Kathleen M. Navitsky, affectionately known as Kathy, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at the age of 72. A resident of Doylestown, formerly from Shenandoah, her life was characterized by music, creativity, and a deep love for her family and community.
Born as the eldest of five children to Walter and Catherine Navitsky, Kathy’s early years were marked by her passion for music. She graduated from Shenandoah Valley High School, Class of 1971, where she served as the drum majorette in the school’s marching band. Music remained a significant part of her life, with her favorite band, The Beatles, providing a lasting soundtrack that resonated through her relationships and conversations.
Kathy’s talents extended beyond music; she was an accomplished seamstress. From a young age, she crafted clothing and costumes, starting with dolls and evolving into elaborate creations for her own children. Her Halloween costumes brought joy not just to her family, but also earned accolades at school events.
After dedicating many years to work in a garment factory, Kathy demonstrated remarkable courage by overcoming her fear of driving. In her early forties, she obtained her driver’s license, allowing her to return to education and fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. She cherished her role at the Ashland Behavioral Health Center, where she combined her love for dolls and music in therapy sessions for older adults facing mental health challenges.
Kathy’s interests extended beyond her professional life. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the television quiz show Jeopardy, often impressing family and friends with her trivia skills. Her wit and thirst for knowledge never waned, making her a cherished conversationalist.
Her culinary skills were also notable, particularly her legendary crab imperial and CMP cake, which were staples at family gatherings. Kathy’s ability to create memorable experiences for her loved ones showcased her caring nature and commitment to family traditions.
Life presented Kathy with numerous challenges, but her resilience shone through. Those who knew her will remember her not only for her struggles but also for her unwavering love and loyalty. Kathy’s heart was expansive, filled with a mix of joy and pain, yet she consistently chose to give to others until her last moments.
She is survived by her children, Anthony Usalis, Hilary, and William O’Keefe, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Ty, Boone, Emma, and Hazel. Kathy’s siblings, Holly Tempest, Melissa Navitsky, and Mimi McCarthy, along with her brother-in-law Terry McDonald, and several nieces and nephews, also mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Navitsky, Jr., in 2021.
A private graveside service will take place at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Shenandoah Heights, where her family will share cherished memories. As they reminisce, they will undoubtedly recall her unmistakable smile and the sound of her humming along to The Beatles, celebrating a life that was both beautiful and profoundly impactful.
